AFC Telford United have signed defender Liam Chilvers on a short-term deal to help ease a defensive injury crisis ahead of tomorrow's game away at Cambridge United.

The Bucks will be without several players for the trip to the R Costings Abbey Stadium but Chilvers' deal will expire once injuries and suspensions to other defenders clear up.

The former Notts County, Colchester United and Preston centre-back will provide essential cover in a very problematic position.

Michael Briscoe (back) and Chris Blackburn (back) are major doubts for the weekend and Jordan Rose is racing against time to shrug off a knock picked up against the Imps while Dan Preston is still suspended.

Left-back Ryan Valentine, who also had to be withdrawn on Saturday after suffering a back injury, is expected to be available though after making significant progress during the week.

Chilvers, aged 31, was released from Notts County in the summer and spent most of pre-season training with Tranmere Rovers. He will take squad number 27.

The Bucks are also expected to be without right-winger Luke Hubbins, who is currently working his way back from a hamstring injury, this weekend while strikers Chris Sharp (hernia) and Jake Reid (hamstring) also remain sidelined.

But Bucks manager Andy Sinton has also revealed that Sharp should be able to join in training next week having made good progress since undergoing a hernia operation last month.
