Sean Clancy is driven by ambition of AFC Telford
New AFC Telford United signing Sean Clancy has claimed the club's ambition was one of the key reasons for him signing up.
The 25-year old former Southport winger was unveiled as new manager Liam Watson's first new signing on Friday evening.
And Clancy has reiterated his boss's desire to challenge for honours at the New Bucks Head as they prepare to bid for an immediate return to the Blue Square Premier, following relegation this season.
Asked why he had agreed to join the Bucks, the left-winger said: "It has got a great set-up, a great fan base and the plan that is in place is something that I want to be part of.
"It's always nice to be at a club that's got that drive and ambition. I joined Southport last season in February but I only signed until the end of the season and I was looking for a fresh start this season.
"The manager approached me asking if I would be interested in coming here and I didn't have to think twice about joining a club like Telford.
"I wouldn't maybe have joined if the aim and plan in place wasn't how it is. But because the case is that they want to go win things and they want trophies and silverware.
"That is what I want to be part of because I am an ambitious player and this is an ambitious club."
Clancy already knows what it takes to win promotion to the Blue Square Bet Premier, having done so with Fleetwood during a spell at the club from 2009 to 2012, which also saw them promoted to the Football League.
And the former Blackpool and Kidderminster Harriers player is hopeful that he can add another title to his CV with the Bucks.
He said: "I have had two promotions at Fleetwood so I know what the league requires to get the job done. Hopefully, that is something we can do this year."
Clancy added that he is also clear of the hernia and groin injury which had hampered his career recently and he is hoping to recapture his best form for the Bucks next season.
He said: "It has hindered me a little bit but now that I have had the proper physiotherapy and rehab, I am feeling back to my old self,.
"This season coming I want to get a good pre-season under my belt and really go for it, and start making waves like I did couple of years ago."
