Sean Cooke is lined up for AFC Telford United
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson today revealed winger Sean Cooke will be in the squad for Saturday's Skrill Conference North visit of Colwyn Bay.
Cooke will be in a competitive match-day 16 for the first time since joining the club in the summer, arriving at the New Bucks Head with a fractured leg.
The 20-year-old was hurt playing for his last club, AFC Flyde, last season and has only been seen in a Telford shirt in a friendly at Airbus two weeks ago.
Now, with just 30 minutes of football under his belt, Cooke is being brought back into the fold as he works towards a competitive debut for the Bucks.
The wide man – the son of former Shrewsbury Town assistant boss Dave Cooke – has been earmarked for a key role by Telford manager Liam Watson.
Watson said: "Sean will be in the squad on Saturday, he will definitely come into the picture. He's not match sharp but he is over his injury, so that's encouraging.
"He's got a bit of running in his legs and we need to get him ready for the team as quickly as possible. He's got that bit of quality that can open teams up."
Another long-term injury victim the Bucks are hoping to use, defender-striker Mat Bailey, got 25 minutes under his belt playing for Nantwich at the weekend.
The towering 6ft 7in former Crewe man played in a 2-1 FA Cup defeat at home to Rugby Town for his former club, who he has re-joined to get some game time.
The 27-year-old could be offered a deal by Telford when he proves his fitness, after rehabbing with the Bucks since the summer from a cruciate ligament injury.
But there's been no takers for winger Jake Bennett, with Watson encountering problems getting the 17-year-old a loan move to gain more first-team experience.
The Telford-born teenager, the cousin of Norwich midfielder Elliott Bennett and Doncaster's Kyle, had been the subject of interest from Chasetown which has cooled.
Watson said: "I have been trying to get Jake out on loan but there's been no takers, as yet. It's disappointing for him but all he can do is keep playing consistently for the youth-team.
"He's a bright prospect but he's got a big ask to break in, at the moment."
