Liam Watson 'our brightest ever boss' says AFC Telford's Lee Carter
AFC Telford United supremo Lee Carter believes the club can now move on from their disastrous relegation – after hailing boss Liam Watson as the most intelligent manager they have had.
The Bucks' managing director believes Watson, who arrived at the end of a painful season that resulted in the club dropping down from the Skrill Conference Premier, has redressed the balance.
Watson's players had no game at the weekend as they are out of the FA Cup, but are on a four-game unbeaten run in the Conference North.
The Telford chief made 18 new signings over the course of the summer and Carter reckons the new broom has swept the New Bucks Head clean.
He said: "We are ticking along. We have put together a four-game unbeaten run which seems to have snuck up on us, because we are still thinking about last season.
"We have a committed set of players and it was always going to take a bit of time to build a bond with the fans.
"Liam is, by far, the most intelligent manager we have ever employed. People forget he's had very little time to turn this club around.
"For the first three or four months, he wasn't even at the club, he was practically signing players from home. And he's preparing us to make the step back up."
Telford's 30-game run without a win in 2012-13 was the worse sequence the league had ever seen, but Carter claims the club are ready to lay those demons to rest.
He said: "I think our vice-chairman, Wynn Price, put it best when he said the club suffered a heart attack last season. We can't be too harsh about it.
"Now it's time to put it right and we are in a position where we can finally draw a line under what happened. I think we can put it behind us.
"All I ask of people is to stop a second and take stock of what we have here, there's is still a big future for us."
Saturday's hosts, Stockport County, came down with Telford for this season. They were playing Championship football as recently as the turn of the century.
The Hatters subsequently went part-time and a delegation of potential Chinese investors will be attending the Telford game, which the club pray will lead to a cash injection.
