Ex-Chester boss Neil Young enters race for AFC Telford job
AFC Telford bosses were today stepping up their search for a new manager.
Dozens of candidates have applied for the vacant position at the New Bucks Head, which opened up after Liam Watson was sacked on Saturday evening.
The club will hold formal talks with potential successors over the next couple of days with ex-Chester boss Neil Young, who guided the team to three promotions in his four year stint with the Blues from 2010-2014, among the latest names known to have applied.
Former Hereford United manager Martin Foyle, ex-Mansfield boss Paul Cox and ex-Sheffield Wednesday defender Greg Fee have also all thrown their hats in the ring for the post.
Ex-Shrewsbury coaches John McMahon and John Trewick, and Rapid Bucuresti assistant boss Mario Marinica have also applied while ex-Lincoln City boss David Holdsworth is interested in the position.
More than 30 applications have been received for the post with Bucks' managing director Lee Cater hoping to have a new man at the helm in time for Saturday's home clash with Eastleigh
Carter said: ""We have got some very credible options that fit in with our objective of avoiding relegation.
"We are still aiming to have someone in place by Saturday. That is what we are aiming for and that was part of the decision-making process.
"We knew we had a little bit of a window in advance of the Eastleigh game to try to bring someone in and allow that person a good 10 days, or four or five games to take stock of what is currently in the squad – and then obviously make use of the transfer window."
The club have been very clear about the main requirements of Liam Watson's successor, who will be tasked with keeping the Bucks in the non-league's top tier this season as well as producing an exciting playing style.
Telford are currently bottom of the Conference and 10 points away from safety.
