AFC Telford boss Steve Kittrick closes in on last two targets

AFC Telford boss Steve Kittrick says he is closing in on the final pieces of his January transfer project.

The Bucks chief, whose team are bottom of the Conference Premier, has already brought in four new signings since taking over the managerial reins in late December.

And if he can land two further targets, that would probably conclude his player hunt during this transfer window. He said: "We are down the line with a couple of players.

"If we get the couple of players that I want, I think that will be it.

"I'm looking at utility players. I like players that can play in two positions."

Kittrick has signed midfielder Jack Rea from Bradford Park Avenue and ex-Chester full-back John Disney. He has also secured loan deals for full-backs Kyle Dixon and Ben McLaughlin from Notts County and Everton respectively – and versatility has been a constant theme.

He said: "Kyle Dixon can play in midfield or at right-back, Ben McLaughlin can play either side of defence, and Jack Rea anywhere in midfield."

Confident

Rea can also turn out at right-back while Disney can operate at either left-back or right-back.

Defence has been Kittrick's main priority in the market as he aims to plug the division's worst rearguard. He is confident that if his team can keep clean sheets, as they did in Saturday's 4-0 win at Wrexham, they have enough firepower at the other end.

Meanwhile, Telford's FA Trophy second round clash with AFC Fylde tomorrow could be switched to the New Bucks Head.

Two attempts to play the game at the Coasters' Kellamergh Park ground in Lancashire have been rained off this month.

A statement on Fylde's website said: "The game is scheduled to be played at Kellamergh Park but there have been talks with Telford and the FA about switching the game to Telford's ground."

He was delighted with forwards Tony Gray and Sam Smith at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday. And he revealed that he has set both players a goal target.

Gray's brace against Wrexham took him to 12 for the season while Smith's second-minute opener was his sixth.

Kittrick said: "I have told Smithy him how many goals I want and he is one nearer.

"And Tony is two nearer to what I have asked of him, so that is fantastic for us."
