AFC Telford close to snapping up a striker
AFC Telford United are hoping to bolster their attack by snapping up a striker in time for Saturday's trip to Forest Green Rovers.
But the Bucks will not be following up their interest in trialists Alex Dixon and Luke Simpson, following their run-outs against Wolves Under-21s on Tuesday.
Manager Steve Kittrick is known to be pursuing an interest in a couple of targets up front and he said: "We are talking to people and we are hoping to sign a striker before Saturday's game."
Kittrick is remaining tight-lipped about the identity of the potential new recruit, although he's understood to have experience of playing in non-league's top flight.
The former Guiseley chief brought in six new signings to strengthen his relegation-threatened side in January.
Jack Rea, Kyle Dixon, Ben McLaughlin, John Disney, Glenn Matthews and Danny Ventre – five of which remain at the club with Dixon having since joined Boston United.
Former Shrewsbury Town defender Ian Sharps and young Birmingham City goalkeeper Callum Preston also arrived in the loan window and Kittrick is keen to further strengthen his squad.
But the Bucks will not pursue their interest in winger Dixon or former Accrington goalkeeper Simpson, after casting an eye over them in Tuesday night's friendly with Wolves
Both players were given game-time during the match, which Telford won 2-1 thanks to goals from Tony Gray and Sam Smith.
But Kittrick said: "We think they are both a work in progress and we need players who are a little bit more up to speed."
Aside from one potential new arrival, there could be movement in the other direction with interest in three of the club's transfer-listed players.
Midfielders Sean Cooke, Charlie Barnett and Kristian Platt have all recently been made available for transfer, along with goalkeeper Jonathan Hedge and utility man Andy Owens.
And Kittrick said: "We have had interest from other clubs for Charlie, Kristian and Sean. It is up to the players if they want to move on."
