Home win is a relief to AFC Telford chief

Manager Steve Kittrick was relieved to see AFC Telford United end a near-five month wait for a home league win at home to Lincoln City.

But he was frustrated that his already-relegated team were unable to claim the elusive victory when it was possible to beat the drop.

A defensive error in last Saturday's home draw with Kidderminster Harriers saw the Bucks relegated with four games to go.

And Kittrick said: "At at the end of the day we have dug in again and we have got three points.

"It is pleasing but it is not pleasing because of what could have been. If you wind the clock back a week to Kidderminster here, one mistake has cost us and I keep thinking about it.

"Had that not happened it would have made this a different game all together but, as I said to the players afterwards, they have just got to go and enjoy it and keep playing with a smile on their face.

"We didn't speak about the home record, and wanting to win at home before the game. I just said' go and enjoy yourself and express yourselves, and lets bring the away form home.'

"I am pleased we got a home win. I am sorry if I don't sound upbeat about it because when you get relegated (it hurts), but a win is a win."

Kittrick also revealed afterwards that he is keen to retain the majority of the players who were involved today for next season, although they will not 'over pay' for players.

He said: "I am going to a board meeting on Thursday to get the budget set for next year and if people are sensible there will be a lot of people that have played today that are here next year.

"But if they aren't sensible and they want money that we can't afford, then they will be going to other clubs."

Top scorer Tony Gray is one the club are keen to keep and Kittrick has indicated to the club what he wants to remain with the Bucks for another year.

He said: "Tony has told (managing director) Lee (Carter) what he wants and it is up to us to see if we can meet what he wants and whether we want to go that far or not."

Meanwhile, midfielder Sean Clancy would be happy to remain at Telford next season and he also hinted that he could be set to take up a role within the club's youth set-up.
