AFC Telford United today brought back Rob Smith their new manager following his departure from National League North rivals Hednesford Town.

Smith and assistant Larry Chambers have both left the Pitmen in order to return to the New Bucks Head, where they were previously in charge between 2006 and 2010.

The Bucks confirmed their appointments this morning to replace boss Steve Kittrick, who was sacked on Sunday just five games into the season, and No 2 Chris Holland with the team bottom of the table.

A club statement read: "One of our most successful management teams in recent history will return in time to take charge of the team for Saturday's trip to Gloucester City.

"We welcome them back to the club and are sure that their passion for the game will re-energise everyone connected with AFC Telford."

Smith and Chambers, won promotion from the Northern Premier League for the club, will now be tasked with reviving their fortunes and maintaining a challenge in non-league's second tier.

Since leaving Telford in October 2010, the pair have been lauded for their work with Hednesford, winning promotion with the Pitmen from the Northern League two years ago.

Former Wrexham boss Kevin Wilkin was also thought to be in the frame but the Bucks opted for Smith, as they look to snap a cycle which has seen them appoint seven new managers in the past two-and-a-half years.
