Report: Drayton sign off with a 4-0 win

Three goals in the last 12 minutes capped a best-yet Evo-Stik League First Division South season for Market Drayton Town.

It came against a makeshift Daventry Town outfit, who offered far tougher resistance than the 4-0 scoreline suggests.

Decimated by financial woes, Daventry resigned from the league a month ago.

And, having shipped 13 goals in two home games, they were seen as easy pickings.

Hope of a Greenfields goal-fest were strengthened, when it emerged Daventry had been obliged to make seven emergency signings during the week just to honour the fixture.

So all was going to script as the visitors made a predictably poor start, conceding a goal in 11 minutes.

They were all over the place as Town central defender Paul McMullen ran, totally unmarked.

He strolled into the penalty area to comfortably convert Cohen Bramall's fine run and cross from the left.

More goals looked inevitable as Drayton forged forward but, too often, an over-elaborate final pass spoilt promising approach work.

Then, against all expectations, Town found themselves being forced onto the back-foot.

Midfielder Edilson Panzoantonio, winger Ryan Archer and striker Kenrick Miller gave Drayton plenty to think about, especially after McMullen limped off at half-time with a leg injury.

Drayton gradually strengthened their grip again and when the always-dangerous Bramall raced clear, cut inside and clipped a shot low into the corner, they were back in control.

Green made it three by smartly converting a penalty for Bay Frasida's foul on the rampant Bramall on 82 minutes.

O'Neill was rewarded for his hard work when he withstood a wild charge by goalkeeper Cerga to score in added time.

It all left Drayton with a mid-table finish, 11th on a record 58 points, having won 16 games drawn 10 and, ironically, lost 16, too.

Daventry depart leaving the worst defensive record in the division, with 113 goals conceded, 17 of them in their last three games.
