Homegrown Shrewsbury Town midfielder Steve Leslie is to stay at League Two rivals Hereford United until the end of the season.

Leslie has had a successful first month on loan at Edgar Street and the Bulls have now got approval from Shrewsbury to extend that deal.

Town travel to Hereford next week but there will be no repeat of the Jake Robinson saga - the forward going on loan to Torquay then scoring against his parent club - as a clause in the deal makes Leslie unavailable for the game.

"Hereford have requested that they keep him until the end of the season and we have agreed to that with the proviso that there is a 24-hour recall if we want him and obviously he won't be able to play against us," said Town boss Graham Turner.

"We are quite happy for him to stay there. I think the experience of going to another club for the first time and getting a few League games under his belt is doing him good.

"I'm told he's done extremely well there and capped it with a fine goal against Chesterfield last week."

Turner added: "I get the impression he hasn't been too readily accepted on the pitch here.

"He hasn't put in the sort of performances that have enamoured the supporters and I think the experience of going somewhere else should stand him in good stead for the future.

"He's got a lot of ability, he's got a terrific left foot. It remains to see how it will work out but it can only do him good."

Meanwhile, Turner has admitted that striker Nathan Elder is unlikely to feature for the first team this season.

Elder is back in training after a 10-month lay-off with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
