Uncertainty and desolation were unwelcome bedfellows of Jon Taylor throughout the summer of 2011.

Now, with another close-season starting to loom on the horizon, Shrewsbury Town's teenage winger is hoping to replace those emotions with clarity and celebration.

Despite having just broken into the first-team at the tender age of 18, Taylor has already felt the pain of the game.

The teenager took last season's double promotion near miss – edged out to third spot by Wycombe by one point before the play-off semi-final defeat to Torquay – as badly as anybody.

And the picture was further clouded by doubts over his future, with Scottish Premier League outfit Motherwell keen to lure the then out-of-contract youngster north of the border.

Taylor is pushing for a recall for tomorrow's trip to Plymouth after replacing Romaine Sawyers at half-time in last week's 1-0 victory over Burton and wants to go one better this season.

He said: "I was telling myself every day last season that we would get promotion and, when it didn't happen, it was devastating.

"It is what we had trained hard for all year and it was very disappointing.

"Then the contract came up and I had never been in that situation before.

"I love Shrewsbury and I love the fans and I never wanted to leave. I had people telling me different things all of the while and my head was all over the place.

"In the end I sat down on my own and had a chat with the chairman, Roland Wycherley, and the manager Graham Turner.

"They are both really good men and offered me advice. I'm glad I took it."

Now settled with another season left on his contract, Taylor is desperate to help Town to promotion via the automatic route over the next 11 games.

He added: "I don't want us to be feeling like we did at the end of last season.

"We are in a good position and we all believe that we can do it. But we know tomorrow is going to be a really tough game.

"Plymouth are fighting for their lives to try and stop in this division.

"But we are fighting, as well, and we know what we need to do."
