Out-of-favour midfielder Sean McAllister insists he is ready to re-join Shrewsbury Town's promotion push – if and when required.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man was a first-team regular throughout patches of the first half the season.

But the encouraging form of Matt Richards and the arrival of loanee David McAllister has left Nicky Wroe having to settle for a place on the bench and Sean McAllister struggling to force his way into the matchday squad in recent weeks.

"I haven't played since Middlesbrough (on FA Cup third round day) which has obviously been disappointing because everybody wants to be involved," said Sean McAllister.

"I've spoken to the manager a few times and he told me I have to be patient, keep working hard in training and hopefully the chance will come.

"That's what I've been doing and hopefully I will play a part between now and the end of the season. I'm ready if required.

"It's not only me in this position – there's the likes of Aaron Wildig, Tom Bradshaw and Connor Goldson.

"The main thing is that the team gets promoted at the end of the season."

Sean McAllister believes that Shrewsbury recent reserve friendlies – a 2-0 defeat to Crewe last week and 1-0 victory at Birmingham on Tuesday – have proved crucial for the shadow squad.

"I think you could see against Crewe that a lot of us needed games and we were much better against Birmingham this week," added the 24-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
