Shrewsbury Town today completed their first signing of the summer with midfielder Asa Hall joining on a free transfer from Oxford United.

Hall, who had a previous loan spell with Town in 2008, rejected a new deal at the Kassam Stadium to join Graham Turner's men.

And Turner admitted he was pleased with the capture of 25-year-old Hall, who made 38 appearances for Oxford this term as they missed out on the League Two play-offs.

"I am delighted Asa will be joining us in July," said Town boss Graham Turner.

"He had an impressive spell on loan here several seasons ago and I've always been impressed with his ability and attitude to work.

"He is starting to build up a reputation for scoring long-range spectacular goals and I look forward to working with him."

Hall, who has signed a two-year contract, hails from Birmingham and told Oxford chairman Kelvin Thomas earlier this month that he wanted to move closer to home.

"We made Asa what we considered a decent offer on improved terms, but to be fair to Asa he was honest with us and has been offered a contract on quite a bit more money closer to home and in a higher division," said Thomas.

The midfielder, capped by England at under-19 and under-20 level, scored three goals in 15 appearances for Shrewsbury during his previous spell at the club.
