Shrewsbury Town must pay Tom Bradshaw fee

Welsh Premier side Aberystwyth today claimed Shrewsbury Town had been ordered to pay £30,000 in compensation for the signing of young striker Tom Bradshaw three years ago.

Aberystwyth chairman Tony Bates revealed at his club's annual meeting last night that the Seasiders have been successful in making a claim under FIFA's training compensation scheme.

Bradshaw began his career with Aberystwyth but joined Shrewsbury's as a youth scholar three years ago and was signed on professional terms shortly after.

It is understood Aberystwyth were able to prove they had offered Bradshaw, who turns 20 later this month, a contract before he agreed to sign for Shrewsbury.

"For me, there is no question it is a proper decision," said Bates.

The Welsh Under-21 forward made a stunning first-team Town debut in April 2010 when he came off the bench to score twice in a 3-0 victory at Crewe.

He has gone on to make 21 starts and 25 substitute appearances for Shrewsbury, scoring 10 goals and will be looking to establish himself at the forefront of the plans of manager Graham Turner for the 2012-13 campaign.

Meanwhile, Turner, who has taken his men to RAF?Shawbury for pre-season training, has revealed the captaincy duties at the Greenhous Meadow are likely to be shared this season.

Ian Sharps fulfilled the role last season but his departure to former club Rotherham has created a void to be filled.

"There is the prospect of two captains – one as a club captain to oversee everything off the field and then a team captain," said Turner who continues to chase two signings – one loan and one permanent.

"Sometimes you combine the two as we did with Ian but there's the prospect of two appointments.

"There's also a players' committee to be formed with a cross section of players just to make sure that we keep the right ethics and spirit in the dressing room and oversee some of the minor disciplinary things like leaving kit on the training ground and not having a water bottle with them.

"It's a self-regulating dressing room and if we can get that going again, it will be fine."
