Paul Parry hails Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner
Shrewsbury Town were today warned to expect a Doncaster backlash in tomorrow's League One clash – as Paul Parry hailed the longevity of manager Graham Turner.
The Town boss turned 65 today but thoughts of retirement were very much on the backburner as he prepared his side for their first ever trip to the Keepmoat Stadium.
Parry is in his second spell working under Turner after being given his break in professional football by his current boss at Hereford between 1998 and 2004.
And the former Welsh international winger is full of admiration for his manager's continued dedication.
"He has been in the game a long, long time and is very well respected by everyone throughout all the Leagues," said 32-year-old Parry.
"He got his honour for services to the game last season and it's more than justified.
"I left Hereford eight or nine years ago and he has still got the same enthusiasm for the game now as he did back then.
"That's one of the reasons I came here.
"He has got a love for the game and a will to want to win and achieve things. He got the promotion last year and has still got it in him to keep going."
Meanwhile, Town travel to face a Doncaster side beaten 3-1 at home by Preston in midweek.
Turner anticipates a response from the home side but is focused on his team replicating their display in Tuesday's goalless draw at Brentford.
"It's always difficult to go to a ground when we they have just lost at home," he said.
"They will be wound up for our game. But I felt Tuesday was a much-improved performance.
"The passing and movement has been a feature of our play when we have done well and I felt that was back.
"I would settle for that level of performance at Doncaster. It's good enough to win more games than we lose."
Turner will be forced into one change for the game with on-loan Wolves striker Sam Winnall set to be sidelined for two weeks with a hamstring injury.
Fellow forward Terry Gornell is favourite to replace him.
