Luke Rodgers wants a longer stay at Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury Town striker Luke Rodgers today revealed his desire to extend his stay at the Greenhous Meadow beyond the end of the current campaign.
The 31-year-old is set to sign a short-term deal until the end of the season after rejoining the club, initially on loan, from League One rivals Portsmouth.
And Rodgers has been so impressed by the Town set-up more than seven years after leaving for Championship football at Crewe that he has his eyes set on a longer contract.
He said: "I love it here at Shrewsbury. I have got four months left but, hopefully, that won't be the end of of it. I want to work hard and I do want to stay.
"I have enjoyed coming back. The morale is good and the training is good. If you work hard it pays off and it is doing so.
"I'm signing until the end of the season now and I just want to do as well as I can in that time."
While Rodgers has scored only twice since arriving back last November, manager Graham Turner has been quick to herald his influence on his attack and, particularly, his work with partner Marvin Morgan.
Morgan ended a 13-game sequence without a goal by scoring the winner at Coventry on New Year's Day. The unexpected success has left Town looking up the League One table rather than down.
Rodgers said: "It was a great result but if anyone has been watching our games they will admit it's be coming. We've been playing well but getting draws when we should have won.
"We have been unlucky, but over the season these things do tend to come back around. There's no reason why we can't kick on. In the run we're on we can do what we want.
"Everyone is working hard and it's not just one person scoring."
Meanwhile, midfielder Elliot Turner was the first departure from the Meadow in the transfer window with the 18-year-old linking up swiftly with non-league side Tamworth.
The former Town youth team captain failed to make a senior appearance after signing six-month terms last summer, but made a winning debut for the Lambs against Nuneaton on Wednesday night.
