Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner wary of Coventry threat

Boss Graham Turner has warned Shrewsbury must defend from the front if they are to shackle Coventry's prolific attack tomorrow.

None of the Sky Blues' first five opponents in league and cup have been able to stop them scoring less than twice so far this season.

And the visit of Steven Pressley's side, who have netted 15 times in four league games, looks on paper to be arguably the toughest test so far of Shrewsbury's defensive qualities.

But Turner has said that it will be the whole team's responsibility to keep Coventry at bay.

Asked whether the game would provide the biggest test of his defence so far, Turner said: "Only time will tell.

"But you don't only defend with the back four, we have got to stop the service (to their attackers) which means everybody contributing to a defensive set-up when Coventry have got the ball.

"You can't just rely on your goalkeeper and your back four to keep them out.

"You have to stop the attacks at source if we possibly can and that means (defending starts) high up the pitch."

Turner will be glad of defensive reinforcement and has welcomed the expected return of skipper and experienced centre-back Tamika Mkandawire, following the birth of his daughter last weekend.

His availability would appear to cause a selection headache following impressive displays by Connor Goldson and Ryan Woods in Mkandawire's absence at Rotherham, where they impressed at centre-back and right-back respectively.

Turner has already said he is likely to build a back four around Mkandawire this weekend, which could present a dilemma involving Woods and Goldson for the right-back spot.

Some fans have called for Woods to be retained following the 19-year-old midfielder's impressive display in his first competitive start.

But asked if it was a straight choice between one or the other for that position, Turner said: "I don't think it is the case.

"I think the beauty with Ryan is that he can play in several positions."
