The 24-year-old has moved to the Greenhous Meadow on a free transfer after three years at Aggborough.

His arrival follows the exits of defenders Tamika Mkandawire and Dave Winfield yesterday with Mellon reshaping his back four following relegation from League One last season.

England C international Demetriou said: "There were other options but when I spoke to Micky and Mike Jackson they sold the club to me.

"I've spoken to a fair few people about the club and they said it's a great club and a great opportunity and if the opportunity came they would come here too.

"That has come from experienced players who I respect highly so I'm glad I've made that decision now and I'm just looking forward to getting into pre-season and starting afresh.

"When the gaffer spoke to me he said he wanted to build a new squad.

"He wants me to be a part of that and I'm looking forward to the challenge.

"The chance to come to a club like this is big for me. I've not played in the League and that's the one thing I've wanted to do."

Demetriou joined Kidderminster from Eastbourne having been a graduate of the Glenn Hoddle Academy.

He can play at left-back or centre-back and was reportedly tracked by Rotherham, Peterborough, Leyton Orient, Portsmouth and Chesterfield.

Shrewsbury captain Mkandawire left the club yesterday. The 31-year-old centre-back had his contract cancelled by mutual consent and his departure came just hours after it was revealed that fellow central defender Winfield had also left.

Mellon has snapped up two centre-halves, Nathaniel Knight Percival and Mark Ellis, following his arrival last month.
