New signing Bobby Grant is ready to make a big impression on the Shrewsbury Town first team, according to team-mates Andy Mangan and Mickey Demetriou.

The tricky winger has initially signed on a one month loan from Championship side Blackpool, but boss Micky Mellon has refused to rule out extending the deal.

And Mangan, who has known Grant since he was 15, has been impressed by the new signing.

He said: "He has been good in training this week. He is coming back from injury but he is looking really sharp.

"I think he can make a big contribution. He has got an absolute wand of a left-foot, he really has. And he can shoot from distance.

"I have known him since we were 15 because we were at Accrington together and he has always impressed me. He really wants to do well, he should come in and really help us."

And defender Demetriou has been similarly impressed with the Liverpudlian in training.

He said: "He has got a great left foot and it's great for me having another left footed player in the squad because sometimes they forget about the lefties in training.

"He has done very well, though. He is going to bring us a bit of experience especially with that he achieved while with Rochdale.

"He can be a big plus for us and hopefully he will help us get a few more goals. Training has been really good this week after beating Cheltenham and he has settled in well and is enjoying it."

Grant was an unused substitute during the win against Cheltenham and is expected to be named on the bench for today's clash with York.
