Door is open to Micky Mellon for Town squad

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon today revealed his door is always open for any player frustrated at a lack of playing time.

Town have had a relatively settled team this season, with Mellon often sticking to his preferred 3-5-2 system both at Greenhous Meadow and on the road.

It's meant some of his charges including the likes of goalkeeper Mark Halstead, Cameron Gayle, Ashley Vincent and Scott Vernon have had very little playing time.

But the Town boss likes to keep all his players informed on why they are out of the current side and added anyone who is unsure should knock on his door.

He said: "I haven't bought any footballer to this club to keep me company. I have got them all here because I want them to play first-team football.

"If they are not in the team, I expect them to knock on my door and ask me why not. It may be circumstance – that the team keeps winning.

"It might be another player in their position is playing well, or it might be I don't think they suit the current system.

"But I want all my players to be hungry to improve and, if they are unsure about anything, they should ask me."

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury chief executive Matt Williams has moved to deny speculation that Town are interested in signing Hednesford Town prospect Jamey Osborne.

The 21-year-old has been one of the Pitmen's star performers of the season so far.

His efforts have helped the Staffordshire outfit to a good campaign and a current position of sixth in the Conference North table.

Earlier this week Sky reported that Town, along with Bristol City, Crewe and Coventry were interested in the youngster.

However, Williams maintained that Town are not pursuing him.
