Micky Mellon tells Town to finish the job

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon insists it will be business as usual with promotion to League One looming on the horizon.

Mark Ellis' goal secured a 1-0 win at home to York City and put them on 86 League Two points, just two points away from instant return to the third-tier.

Despite both Bury and Southend winning, Shrewsbury's fate now rests very much their own hands after they won in front of a roaring home crowd of more than 6,000 fans.

But Mellon insists all Town will do is move on to their trip to Cheltenham Town next weekend and warns nothing has been achieved yet.

He said: "We go down to Cheltenham now. We'll want to go down there and win anyway, regardless of anything that was happening so, for us, nothing much changes.

"We'll get dusted down and get the boys ready and we'll have a good go of going down to Cheltenham, trying to win another game of football."

Town's victory also set a new club-record for the most Football League clean sheets in a season, after their 22nd shut out of the campaign.

Mellon said: "We got what we wanted to end the day with, so I'm absolutely delighted with another really valuable three points.

"It's a fantastic clean sheet so I think we've broken that record and set a new one now, so all credit to the boys for that as well.

"We couldn't quite get the second but it was a massively important day and there were a lot of nerves bouncing around the ground, so fair play to the players."
