The attacking midfielder, who has played a starring role for Town with six goals this season, said the Liverpool legend has been keeping a close eye on all events at Greenhous Meadow.

Salop can seal an instant return to League One by beating Cheltenham at Whaddon Road today, with a draw also likely to be enough thanks to their vastly superior goal difference.

And Grant has revealed he's spoken about Town's promotion push with the global star who himself is gearing up for his big farewell from Anfield.

"I have a lot of people asking what he is like, but he is a friend of mine and I can't speak any higher of him," Grant said.

"He is a down to earth guy. He is just like everybody else, the only difference is he's a superstar.

"I have spoken to him about Shrewsbury. He has watched us and he has talked about the promotion. He has told me I have to enjoy it.

"For myself, it's always nice to go to people like that if you need advice. In football terms who better is there to go to?"

Gerrard will end his illustrious stay at Liverpool in the summer when he departs Anfield to join LA Galaxy on a deal reported to be worth £6m to the star midfielder.

But despite the riches on offer, Grant made a cheeky attempt to get the 34-year-old to join Micky Mellon's revolution at Greenhous Meadow.

"I did try," the creative midfielder schemer joked.

"I think if you ask the gaffer he might want him too!

"I have tried that one, I think we'll have to go ask the chairman if he will pay for him."

Meanwhile Grant, who is currently on loan from Blackpool, has re-iterated his desire to stay with Shrewsbury at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old's contract with the Tangerines expires at the end of the season, however Blackpool have the option to extend the deal by a further year.

"I haven't spoken to anyone at Blackpool since I went back there in January," Grant said.

"I've made no secret I want to stay at Shrewsbury and if the manager, the chairman and Matt Williams (chief executive) want to sit down and discuss next season then I am happy to do that."
