Town closing in on Luton's Shaun Whalley
Shrewsbury Town are hopeful of adding a second signing in three days with the capture of Luton winger Shaun Whalley.
The 27-year-old, who has been released from Kenilworth Road, has agreed a two-year deal but the club are awaiting clearance on his medical.
Should they be satisfied with the outcome, the former AFC Telford United loan wide-man would become Town's fourth summer signing.
It comes after left-back Mat Sadler and central midfielders Martin Woods and Abu Ogogo.
Town chief executive Matt Williams said: "It's always a difficult time to get things done because our physio is away on holiday and we need to speak to people to make sure they stack up from our end.
"But we expect everything to be sorted in the next 24 to 48 hours when we have had the full medical clearance.
"The doctor is keen to speak to the medical people at Luton, who are also away on holiday at the moment."
Merseyside-born Whalley started his career at Chester but made his mark at Accrington Stanley in 51 appearances prior to a move to Wrexham, where he scored four times in 14 outings.
But it was in a two-year spell at Southport, who he joined in 2011, that he really made a name for himself after scoring 27 times in 101 games, which earned him a switch to Luton.
At Kenilworth Road, Whalley made 34 league appearances over two seasons, including one as substitute in the 0-0 draw at home to Town in January.
And while he was with the Hatters, a loan spell at Telford enabled him became the only player to win the Conference North and Conference Premier title-winning medals in one year,
The way was paved for Whalley's arrival with the departure of Ashley Vincent.
The 30-year-old's exit was confirmed after his contract, which had a year to run, was cancelled by mutual agreement.
