Town stay quiet on Goldson's QPR link
Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon refused to address talk that defender Connor Goldson could be leaving as he was heavily linked with Queens Park Rangers.
The footballing grapevine is awash with speculation that the Londoners are interested in the 22-year-old.
Town insisted a hamstring injury kept Goldson out of last night's 2-1 home defeat to Chesterfield, after Mellon claimed on Monday that everyone was fully fit.
Mark Ellis took Goldson's place. And boss Mellon didn't deny the link when asked about it after the game, saying: "I'm not going to get involved in it - I only want to talk about the game.
"He's got a hamstring injury - that's the extent of it and he reported that to us late on Monday.
"We'll assess that over the next 24 hours or whatever. I don't know if it disrupted us because he wasn't involved."
Swindon had a £100,000 bid rejected for Goldson last month, after Leeds enquired about him.
But Town's valuation - believed to be nearer to £1m - means that he is of a price range that only Championship clubs and above could afford.
Goals by former Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake five minutes after the restart and Sam Hird on 64 minutes put Dean Saunders's side in the driving seat tonight.
Mat Sadler's superb curling shot two minutes from time couldn't save Town, with Mellon adding: "We lost our way completely and didn't resemble anything we've done in training.
"We looked devoid of ideas at times and we lacked that intensity we've had in recent games and couldn't get going.
"It was an uncharacteristic performance and I just couldn't get a spark to get us going.
Town looked jaded and Mellon admitted: "It's been a tough four games and it looked like the fourth game of a tough run."
