Shrewsbury Town top scorer Sullay Kaikai recalled by Crystal Palace
Shrewsbury Town's top scorer Sullay Kaikai has been recalled by Crystal Palace - and tipped to play in the Premier League this season.
The 20-year-old loan winger could be involved in Palace's top-flight matches at home to Stoke this Saturday and away at Southampton on Sunday, May 15, after his stunning impact in blue and amber.
But he is ineligible for the FA Cup Final against Manchester United the following Saturday as he is cup-tied, having played for Town against Grimsby in the first round.
Kaikai's recall means he misses Town's final game of the season away to Swindon on Sunday and won't get chance to add to his 12 goals in 29 games in all competitions.
Palace have recalled Kaikai after securing their Premier League safety despite a 1-0 defeat at relegation rivals Newcastle at the weekend, while Town are also safe in League One after Blackpool and Doncaster lost.
Manager Micky Mellon expressed his gratitude to Palace for allowing the highly-rated youngster the chance to play at Town.
"It would be great to think he's going back to play in the Premier League - that would be fantastic for him," said the boss.
"We'll look out for that and hopefully it goes really well for him.
"In terms of what he's brought he's been nothing short of fantastic.
"With his goals and his workrate we have to say thanks very much to Crystal Palace for allowing us to have him because he's played a big part in our survival and I'm pleased he'll now return to Palace and may get the opportunity to be involved in their last few Premier League games. It will be a great reward for the lad.
"His goals have been invaluable but he's also a great kid and was great to have in and around the place.
"Sullay was always going to go back to Crystal Palace and they have a very exciting young talent there who I look forward to watching blossom even more.
"We're very grateful to have played a part in his journey to being a very good footballer.
"We'll now look forward to seeing his progress in the future because he's a lad of great promise."
Town had six loans before Kaikai's exit, and Mellon wants to repeat the success they have enjoyed with the youngster again with other top prospects next season.
"It's important for clubs like us that when we get the opportunity to get young talent such as Sullay, Jack Grimmer, Larnell Cole, then we have to try to do that to keep us competitive," he said.
"We've been successful with that this season and we'll have to work very hard in the future to continue to bring in these types of players to help us continue to move forward as a club.
"Someone else will get an opportunity now in our final game of the season.
"We'll go down there now and enjoy a game of football and hopefully end the season with a win."
