Kenny Jackett striking out into the loan market

Boss Kenny Jackett is ready to make a move in the loan market to ease Wolves' striker shortage.

Benik Afobe and Adam Le Fondre are now the only two senior forwards in the squad after Nouha Dicko was ruled out for nine months with a serious knee injury.

Attempts to add another striker in the closing hours of the transfer window came to nothing despite the club making what Jackett described as "significant bids" for a number of targets. The head coach is now ready to recommence his efforts when the emergency loan window opens on Wednesday.

"We certainly tried (to bring in a striker) but no, there wasn't any luck," said Jackett. "It was a tough call through from Saturday night to Tuesday but both Kevin Thelwell and Jez (Moxey) made several significant bids."

"It (the loan window) definitely does become an option, we will continue our recruitment and try to improve the squad.

"We want to get them back from international duty and make sure everyone is fit and available and then, as we go into the next batch of games, try to pick up as many points as we can."

Bournemouth's Yann Kermorgant and Crystal Palace's Frazier Campbell were among those linked to Wolves and could now be possible targets in the loan window.

Dicko tore his anterior cruciate ligament during the 2-1 win over Charlton.

Jackett added: "We are an injury away from maybe struggling. Having said that, with two goalscorers in Afobe and Le Fondre, we have a number of players who can play behind the striker.

"Young Bright (Enobakhare) has looked a fantastic prospect in pre-season and I wouldn't want us to bypass him for maybe someone not quite as good.

"The likes of James Henry, Jed Wallace and certainly Nathan Byrne can play behind the striker as well. To be as strong as possible and have strikers on the bench is something you do need."
