Jelleyman quits in Bucks shock

AFC Telford United's revolving door was today in full operation – with one player out and two in before their Bank Holiday double-header.

Left-back Gareth Jelleyman has made the surprise switch to Blue Square Premier outfit Barrow, with Sean Newton moving in the other direction on an initial one month's loan.

And Bucks boss Rob Smith has further bolstered his defensive options with another raid on the top flight of non-League football by signing Oxford central defender Shane KiIllock – who began his career at Huddersfield – also on a one-month loan.

Both new additions are 20 and are expected to feature in tomorrow's home game with Ilkeston and Monday's tip to Gloucester City.

Smith admitted he was shocked by the departure of Jelleyman, but thrilled to have moved swiftly with his double additions.

"The agreement we had was that Gareth would be non-contract and I had a phone call from the Barrow manager Dave Bayliss to say he would be signing for them," said Smith.

"It's disappointing as Gareth was a fantastic lad and a pleasure to have around.

"That left us in the lurch a little bit but we knew Barrow couldn't play both left backs and we really rate Sean and are delighted to have signed him.

"He's an England C International and when he was playing for Droyslden last season, there were figures of £10,000 being banded about for clubs who wanted to sign him.

"It's for a month to start with but we are hoping that will become permanent. There is no chance of Shane being a permanent deal because he has got a two-year contract at Oxford.

"We felt we needed a bit of cover at centre half and Shane wasn't getting a chance at Oxford with them flying, so it was an ideal opportunity to bring a good solid defender in."

Smith, meanwhile, has set his side a tough task for his side's two games inside 48 hours.

"There are six points up for grabs and we want all of them," he added.

But they will have to do without Jon Adams (hamstring), Jamie Vermiglio (groin) and Jimmy Turner (side strain).

Striker Dave Howarth has also stepped up from youth level after a prolific start to the Midland Youth Floodlit League campaign.
