Has Telford got something against British actress Kate Winslet,

She's sweeping the awards board this year for her performances in The Reader and Revolutionary Road, but Telford film fans have no idea whether the plaudits are deserved, because the town's Odeon cinema isn't showing either of them.

When it comes to The Reader, there are mitigating circumstances. It was released on the quiet, before anyone knew Kate would pick up a Golden Globe plus Oscar and Bafta nominations for her performance, so there was no guarantee of a big audience.

But Revolutionary Road, which was officially released in the UK today, is a different matter. First of all, it marks the eagerly awaited reunion of Kate and Leonardo DiCaprio for the first time since Titanic, and secondly, it's been all over the news since it earned Kate won her first ever best actress Golden Globe.

Cinemas have to make money. I understand that. And if a slapstick Police Academy 23 is expected to put more bums on seats than an arty-farty production which is lauded by the critics, you can follow the logic and see which one the multiplex will choose.

But this Revolutionary Road has A-list stars, has received wall-to-wall publicity, and its topic about normal families enduring normal daily struggles is something the Telford masses can relate to.

Worst of all, Telford cinema has been running "coming soon" trailers for the film, lulling viewers into the false belief that they'll have the chance to see it.

It might not quite be a trades description offence, but it's misleading, frustrating . . . and plain stupid.
