Prostate cancer screening a success
Men have a reputation for being notoriously dilatory when it comes to their health, and to prefer a head-in-the-sand approach.
Men have a reputation for being notoriously dilatory when it comes to their health, and to prefer a head-in-the-sand approach.
But events at Bridgnorth may make us all change our preconceptions about male attitudes to health matters.
A prostate cancer screening event organised by Bridgnorth Lions Club was attended by 581 men, making it the largest ever single prostate cancer screening event in Britain.
The test is very simple and, while the results of this particular screening are still filtering through, previous Bridgnorth screenings detected over 30 local men with prostate cancer.
They were subsequently referred for treatment which, according to the Lions, is thought to have cured all of them.
As with all cancers, early detection and diagnosis is vital and immeasurably improves the prospect of a good outcome.
It goes without saying that these Bridgnorth screenings have been an entirely worthwhile exercise, reassuring some people and potentially saving the lives of others.
And it shows that if men are given the opportunity to have cancer screening, they will seize it in both hands.
More please.
