Telford & Wrekin Police had declared the route 'unsafe' and expect it to be closed until early next week.
People were being advised to find alternative routes.
Officers shared a photo of the road blocked off with signs and cones on their official Facebook account earlier this evening.
The post read: "Due to a burst water main and an unsafe road the Dawley Road leading into Lawley has been closed and is likely to remain closed until early next week. Please find alternative routes for your journey."
However, aa spokesperson for Severn Trent Water said the burst main had been repaired on Thursday afternoon, with all supplies returned to properties and the road was expected to reopen imminently.
According to the Severn Trent water supplier's incident map "customers may experience no supply, poor pressure or discoloured water whilst our engineers carry out essential repairs in the area."
The 'area event' notice adds: "The team are working as fast as they can to get this resolved. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
The water company has been contacted for a comment.
