Shrewsbury-based Zen Communications has issued The Grammatical Trap to local businesses and residents to help them avoid some of the simple errors that are made each day in CVs, contracts and advertisements.

Spelling errors and misuse of apostrophes and commas are among the areas covered by the guide, which is available for free from Zen.

Company director Felicity Wingrove said: "We produced The Grammatical Trap to help businesses avoid making mistakes in their written communications, and to make them aware of the sheer importance of using good grammar.

"I'm a grammar geek myself and know that companies secure work through positive recommendations and referrals, a business's credibility and reputation can be questioned if grammatical mistakes are made in documents such as contracts and tenders, or in marketing materials like brochures or website copy.

"The power of the written word can often help clients choose which businesses that they want to work with – after all, it comes down to trust, and knowing that the services you offer will more than meet their expectations.

"I liken it to buying a house with a damp patch. You find yourself looking at the nooks and crannies, drainpipes and door handles, wondering if the rest of the house is as it seems, or if some problems are lurking out of sight."
