Expansion bid by haulage company Grocontinental

One of Shropshire's best-known businesses today set out expansion plans that will safeguard about 250 jobs.

Haulage giant Grocontinental wants to extend a loading port at its sub zero storage and distribution warehouse in Shakespeare Way, Whitchurch.

The move will ensure that incoming and outgoing products are not held up.

Although the proposed development will not create jobs, bosses say it will safeguard their existing employees, and also benefit surrounding farms and businesses.

Linda Grocott, the company's current joint managing director, said the development involves creating a loading bay to service a new building which is almost complete. The company's planning application says the extension will not result in any additional pollution and neither will it affect local residents.

A planning application has been submitted to Shropshire Council.

People can comment on the plans via the Shropshire Council website.
