Helping hand for Telford charities
Business leaders across Telford who fancy themselves as the next Peter Jones or Deborah Meaden are being called upon to share their expertise at an event aimed at helping the running of local charities.
The Telford Pulling Together Project, which brings together businesses and charities, is planning to hold the Dragons' Den-style event at its next business breakfast on February 6, at the Whitehouse in Wellington, from 8am to 10am.
The aim of the event is to get more local businesses involved with charities in the Telford area.
It is hoped several business delegates armed with their range of skills will step forward into the dragons' shoes and offer their expertise, advice and knowledge to charities on how they can run their organisation more efficiently and generate more income.
"We thought this would be a really good way for business people to support local charities," said Lois Breen, project manager at Telford & Wrekin Council for Voluntary Services (CVS) which is involved in the pulling together initiative.
"Charities are not solely just after money so people do not have to come along with a pile of cash. We are also grateful their business expertise and skills."
Several charities will be selected by the Telford Pulling Together Project to face the dragons.
They will have an opportunity to explain what their charity does and then pitch for the dragons' help and advice on any aspect of the charity which requires improvement.
"Some charities might be looking for advice on how they can capitalise on income generation whilst others might need help on how to market and publicise what they do better," Miss Breen said.
"Whatever help they require, charitable organisations have a lot to gain from local businesses and entrepreneurs who know what it takes to run a successful company."
