Co-op members to share in £1.6 million profits
Members of The Midcounties Co-operative in Shropshire are to receive a share of a record £1.6 million profits payments after sales topped £1 billion.
The society, which has stores across the county as well as other parts of the Midlands, enjoyed a 24 per cent increase in gross sales to £1.167 billion in 2013-2014.
A total of 191,760 members will receive a payment. How much each member gets will depend on how much they spend across the group but the last payout saw one member receive £727.
The society is also distributing a further £3.6m to community groups and other Co-operatives, bringing the total distributed this year to £6.8 million, 41.5 per cent of its trading profit.
The society trades in food retail, funeral, travel, pharmacy, nurseries, flexible benefits and energy.
