Inspired showing by local businesses
Vehicle tracking supplier Quartix has followed up its maiden results announcement as a public company with a pair of prestigious business accolades.
The Newtown company was named among the 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain, and was joined on the list by eight businesses in Shropshire.
In the report, compiled by the London Stock Exchange, five businesses in Shropshire Council's area and three in Telford & Wrekin were hailed as those which are "the driving force behind the UK's economy".
Among the companies in Shropshire achieving turnover of between £10 and £20 million, according to the list, were agricultural contractor Adrian Marsh, Oswestry based footings company Foundation Piling, and Hawk Hire – part of the Prees-based Hawk Group which achieves turnover of closer to £70 million through its construction equipment businesses.
Educational building specialist Goldfoster, which trades as BuiltOffsite and is based in Shawbury, was credited with turnover of £20 to £30 million, while Oakland Farm Eggs, which turns over more than £70 million and is based near Telford, was also included.
The LSE also hailed Telford businesses, including contract hire company SP Holding.
Tyre selling company Treadsetters, which has revenue of £75 to £100 million, and driver training company TTC Group – in the £10 to £20 million band – were also included.
"With over four million SMEs in the UK, we are delighted to have been named as one of the top thousand to inspire British businesses," said Andy Walters, managing director of Quartix.
"We have grown significantly in the last few years and have continued to invest in our technology and our people."
Total sales grew by 15.9 per cent to £15.3 million last year.
The company has also now been recognised with a business award in Cambridge, where the company also has a base.
