A plan to build a solar farm in Telford the size of more than 11 football pitches has been put forward.

The application has been submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council by Wiltshire-based company Solstice Renewables Ltd.

If the plans for the 23-acre site are given the go-ahead it would see solar panels installed on the land west and south west of Muxton Grange Cottages, just off Donnington Wood roundabout, in Muxton,

Plans also include a temporary road to be built through Granville Country Park for construction access – prompting a number of objections.

Shropshire Wildlife Trust said the road would "permanently damage and destroy" the park.

Jan Mckelvey, conservation manager for the trust said: "As an active partner in the management of this area, Shropshire Wildlife Trust and the Friends of Granville are astounded not to have been consulted on this application in advance of submission.

"This route would lead to significant disturbance for at least the period of construction and it would also permanently damage and destroy part of the designated local nature reserve. We urge Telford & Wrekin planners to stand up for Granville Country Park and throw out this application."

A number of residents have objectedsaid commented on the application saying the temporary road plan is "ludicrous" as it would ruin the park.

Charlotte Scott, of Ryder Drive, Muxton said: "This development will seriously damage Granville nature reserve if it goes ahead.

"This area is one of the remaining green spaces left in Muxton and is a valuable resource for local residents, dog walkers, horse riders and nature lovers."

The application will go before planning officers at a later date.
