Five businesses from the county are set to head out on a trade mission to the Japanese capital from February 28 until March 4, with another following on with her own visit to a major international food exhibition in Tokyo the following week.

They include Telford's airport ramp maker Ra'alloy, turf care specialist Maxwell Amenity of Allscott, breakfast cereal firm The Ludlow Nut Company, Hadley Park-based virtual reality company Woote, and record label Caroline True Records.

The high-end confectionery company Champion Reeves will follow the trip, organised by UK Trade & Investment's Shropshire branch, a week later.

Those businesses are among 10 from the West Midlands who will be heading to Japan, where they will meet another 10 from a North West-based group of companies.

Together they will hold a reception at the British embassy in Tokyo, meet with potential distributors and partner companies, and attempt to drum up business in the Far East.

It is the third such trip to Japan in the last few years, with the last having seen a group of five advanced manufacturers from Shropshire visit an industry show in Tokyo in 2014.

UKTI's Richard Smith, trade advisor with UKTI, said: "It's such an important market, and one that does look for innovative and interesting things.

"There's no guarantees, but the trip could help some of these companies to win more business, or to generate new business in Japan."
