Revealed: 10 Telford food outlets that have ZERO hygiene ratings
Ten businesses in Telford were today identified as having the lowest possible food hygiene score.
Companies from across the borough have been given a zero rating by inspectors, on a scale that runs to five. A zero rating means that the establishment needs urgent improvement.

Some of the establishments have held the low rating since the start of this year, and Telford & Wrekin Council, which is responsible for awarding the scores, says many are already under monitoring to improve their scores. A couple date back further, one as far back as 2014, but in both cases further monitoring has taken place.
The failures in Telford & Wrekin contrast to those in the Shropshire Council area, where there are no zero ratings.

Inspectors check how hygienically the food is handled, prepared, cooled, cooked and stored, the condition of the structure of the buildings including cleanliness and layout and how the business ensures food is safe.
On the Food Standards Agency Website it says: "Those with ratings of '0' are very likely to be performing poorly in all three elements and are likely to have a history of serious problems. There may, for example, be a lack of sufficient cleaning and disinfection, and there may not be a good enough system of management in place to check and record what the business does to make sure the food is safe."
Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for public protection, safety and enforcement, said: "Telford & Wrekin Council has procedures in place to bring about the improvement of food hygiene ratings for food business operators in the borough.
"Any business receiving a zero rating is revisited to ensure the basic requirements are met and the works identified and required at the inspection have been, or are being, addressed. The original rating from the date of the first inspection remains in place until the next full unannounced inspection is carried out, regardless of any monitoring revisits, to ensure the public are informed of the conditions found at the last unannounced inspection. Therefore although conditions have improved this will not reflect in the FHRS score given.
"In line with national guidance such premises will be due for a subsequent inspection approximately six months from the date of the original inspection and will be rated again on the conditions and practices seen at the time of this unannounced visit."
Councillor Rhodes said the vast majority of businesses visited easily pass the inspection, adding: "To provide some context to the figures, 207 similar premises in Telford & Wrekin have a rating of five, the highest possible score."
All of the restaurants on the list were called to ask whether they would like to provide a comment before publication, but they either declined or failed to respond.
