Takeover deal for Shropshire security shredder
Shropshire paper recycling specialist WN Security Shredding has been bought out in a move that could see it re-established in a new base in the area.
The Shifnal-based company has been acquired by Stoke-on-Trent company Chaffinch Document, securing the future of the business and its customers.
The company's owner Nigel Jones also owns Quick Skips in Shifnal, and growth of that business saw him offload the operation to the Stoke company.
The company's remaining staff transferred to Quick Skips, and Chaffinch is now looking for mobile workers to carry the company's name around Shropshire while it builds up the business.
The takeover will see around five new jobs created. Chaffinch is planning to find a new permanent base in Shropshire in the future.
Chaffinch Group managing director Alastair Machin said: "This is a great acquisition for us.
"We have acquired and protected a long standing business of 27 years which complements our existing services and will create new jobs immediately.
"We are fully committed to all of WN Shredding's existing customers, and intend to build on their reputation for excellent service across the region whilst looking to increase our customer base across Shropshire, the West Midlands and beyond.
"By offering increasingly specialised compliance and data protection services it will add another dimension to our business. Our processes allow us to protect the information of our clients and their customers, whilst providing environmentally-responsible solutions to an ever-growing challenge."
WN Security Shredding, has been acquired by Chaffinch Document, which is headquartered in Stoke-on-Trent.
Chaffinch Document specialises in secure document storage and secure shredding. The move comes as Chaffinch opens a new 6,000 sq ft facility on Fenton Industrial Estate in Stoke, where the newly-enlarged business will be headquartered.
WN was launched in Shropshire in 1989 and has been a well-known presence in the county since then.
Mr Machin said he intended to carry on in that vein, and has already signed up to Shropshire Chamber of Commerce.
He added: "The long-term vision is that we have an operational team in Shropshire. We already cover the entirety of the county, but it's not the most efficient way to do it from Stoke-on-Trent.
"We have retained a large proportion of the business and that was the most important thing. We were very keen that the customers were provided with a service that continued to suit their needs, at the level they already experience."
Typical customers for document storage and secure shredding tend to be professional firms such as solicitors and accountants and any organisation legally bound to store, and then destroy confidential documentation.
The business, which is part of the Chaffinch Group of companies, will be looking to expand its existing customer base across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire and the West Midlands.
Used paper from offices will be shredded and formed in to half-tonne bales which are taken to paper mills to be turned into toilet paper and kitchen roll.
