Ludlow Brewery Co has set up its own cycling team and is making a name for itself on the circuit.

The brewery, which is run by Gary Walters, now sponsors a number of riders in all disciplines of cycling from road racing to cyclo-cross and mountain biking.

Gary has joined forces with Pearce Cycles and Martin Sharpe Joinery Company to create Ludlow Brewery Race Team and they are going from strength to strength, notching up a number of impressive wins.

Two rising stars are 17-year-old Will Hints, who specialises in road racing and time trials and Max Gibbons, 18, who holds the title of Welsh Junior Cyclo-cross League Champion.

Another team member Catherine Coley only started riding four years ago. But last year, the 47-year-old took the Welsh Amateur Road Racing title.

Mr Walters said: "It just started off as friends who liked cycling getting together and have a training session and it has grown from there.

"We really want to encourage the young ones into cycling. The area around here is perfect for riding, both on the road and off. Cleobury Mortimer forest is brilliant for mountain biking and Pearce Cycles run a number of races there.

"It has been a brilliant way of bringing people together. We hold the training sessions on a Saturday morning and then afterwards people do pop in to the brewery for a pint before they make their way home."
