Up to 20 jobs could be created when a new bar opens in Shrewsbury.

Bosses behind the Source Bar on Barker Street have decided that the club, which has been open for 10 years, has run its course and, with a new management team, have decided to turn it in to a music, sports and dance venue for the more mature market.

Renovations to the building will begin today and bosses hope the new venue, which will be called Albert's Shed, should be up and running by mid-March.

Owner Mike Page said: "After 10 years we are closing down the Source Bar. It has been such a success and I think it is fair to say that every person in the town of a certain age would have been through its doors at some point.

"But Albert's Shed is going to be brand new. We will be showing sports during the day and serving cocktails and real ale. In the evenings there will be live music and bands as well as a DJ with dancing.

"It is aimed at those aged 21 and over. It is going to be a very smart and sophisticated place. We are making it so that it will appeal to the older customer.

"There are a lot of places in Shrewsbury that cater for a younger crowd and we want to be the place to offer something a bit different.

"We will be under new management and we will be needing bar staff, bar managers and glass collectors. I think that between 15 and 20 jobs will be created.

He added: "The inspiration for the venue is that we saw a place with a similar vibe and thought that it was great.

"The builders are moving in on Monday and will be gutting the building. It will be a total renovation. It is costing a lot of money to do. I don't want to say how much but we are throwing a lot at it. The works are going to take between three and four weeks and we are going to open in March. The exact opening date is still to be confirmed."
