Oakengates Theatre, in Telford, will have a lime green and purple frontage – a new look which council chiefs have said will put the venue on the map.

Work is currently ongoing to renovate the theatre and neighbouring shops and lighting around Limes Walk, and a new artist's impression of the completed work has been released showing the planned new frontage.

Debbie King, theatre manager said: "We're delighted, we think it will be an iconic building that is really recognisable for Telford.

"We're pleased to be able to use it to promote the venue."

Councillor Liz Clare, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for leisure services and culture, said: "We are very excited about the work that is going on to improve

the theatre frontage as part of the broader regeneration of Oakengates.

"We feel this will really help put the theatre on the map and make it an iconic building for Telford. The work will improve the lighting and access and make

the overall theatre experience even more enjoyable for residents and visitors.

"Some shop frontages in Oakengates are also being improved as we continue to invest in the town following consultation with Oakengates Town Council."

The work on the theatre began at the start of November and is due to be completed before this year's pantomime starts on December 12.

Mrs King said: "We're hoping it will definitely be finished before the pantomime.

"Our visitors should get to experience the new frontage over the Christmas period.

"It should be within the next few weeks that customers and panto visitors get to see it, we're very excited."
