Breakfast is real meal deal at Telford school
Supermarkets have pitched in to help provide breakfast for parents and pupils at a school in Shropshire.
Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Co-op stores in Telford have helped with food or vouchers for the three-day breakfast event at Donnington Wood Infant School in Telford.
The event was taking place all week in an attempt to show pupils how important breakfast is.
Parents have been invited to have breakfast in school and take part in learning activities, along with their children, throughout the morning.
Louise Marshall, a teacher at the school, said she was keen to make sure the event was a success.
"We want to show how quick and easy having breakfast is and how important having a healthy breakfast can be," she said.
Telford & Wrekin Catering will help out with the food as well as provide juice and fruits for the event, which starts at 8.45am and will finish at 10.15am each morning.
"Cereals, fruits, porridge will be available and this has had a great response from the pupils," said Mrs Marshall.
"In the news there are stories about pupils and lack of breakfast, so we decided to try something different."
June Walker, Asda's community life champion at the Donnington Wood store, already works closely with the infant school and will be talking to pupils and parents about the importance of a healthy start to the day.
The infant school has held parent lunches before but this is the first attempt at a parent breakfast.
"This is the first time we are doing this, we want it to be a positive experience for the children," said Mrs Marshall.
"They have great fun and it is wonderful that parents can join in too."
