Cricket star comes to Whitchurch school
She's reached the top of her sport and been recognised for efforts in the Queen's Honours List - and England international cricketer Jenny Gunn has been passing on some of her knowledge to youngsters in Shropshire.
Gunn, the vice-captain of the England team which has won the last two Ashes series, took an after-school session with about 30 pupils at Sir John Talbot Technology College in Whitchurch. Those involved had the chance to face some of Gunn's medium pace bowling and pick up tips on all facets of the game during an hour-long workout.
Gunn, 28, who goes by the nickname Trigger and is known for her exceptional fielding, recently received the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for her services to cricket.
Steve Harvey, PE teacher at the school, said: "It was a brilliant afternoon and it was great to get someone of Jenny's standing here to the school.
"She bowled at them at the pace she would in a match, as well as taking some coaching, offering tips to the students and playing in a short match with us.
"The pupils were really responsive, and although they were in awe at first they soon got into the swing of it.
"Girls cricket is something we are really trying to push here at the school and I think our current team got a lot from seeing someone like Jenny and being able to speak to her and learn from her."
Gunn visited the school in Whitchurch on Tuesday and yesterday was a guest at a Kwik Cricket event for primary school children at Wellington Cricket Club.
