At just 28, she was warned that her life and the life of her baby were at risk.
Thankfully she is now on the road to recovery, and little Toby is a picture of health.
But Katherine is determined that her story can act as an example to others that strokes don't just affect people in old age. Katherine, from Wem, a nurse at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, described the sudden stroke she suffered more than six months ago as "absolutely horrendous".
The condition left her partially paralysed and unable to talk for a while and she is still receiving help in her recovery.
