Mad Hatter's fun at Ironbridge museum

Youngsters could be forgiven for thinking they have fallen down a rabbit hole into the fantasy world of Alice in Wonderland.

The festivities of the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and the grin of the Cheshire Cat will be accompanied by the Queen of Hearts playing a game of croquet.

But this is not taking place in a land conjured up by Lewis Carroll – it's happening in Shropshire this weekend.

The world of adventure will be at Blists Hill Victorian Town on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors will be able to follow a clue-led trail around the town to find the Cheshire Cat. There will also be the chance to see scenes from the book performed by costumed characters from the Sundial Theatre Company.

Youngsters can enjoy plenty of other fun activities during the day, including colouring in pictures from the book.

Everyone who arrives dressed-up in costumes from the story will be able to take part in a competition to find the best costume from the book. Outfits will be judged at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party with the winner receiving a prize portrait taken by the town's photographer.

The Victorian town is one of 10 museums run by Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust, and other activities planned in the near future include a Sherlock Holmes-themed event.
