Reader captures stunning moon image in Shropshire

It looks more like a scene from the beginning of a Superman movie, but look a little closer and you can see a jet passing the moon at high speed.

This stunning image was captured on camera this month by photographer Paul Burgess, of Watergate Street in Ellesmere, who managed to get the timing just right.

And for the next few days, lucky evening walkers may be able to see the moon at its fullest before it wanes to become a half moon on Monday.

But it might be difficult catching a glimpse as the week looks set to bring cloudy nights and warmer temperatures, reaching highs of 13C (55F) on Friday.

Today will be cloudy with the occasional spell of rain during the evening, and the mercury will rise up to 10C (50F).

Tomorrow will be sunny during the day and temperatures will peak at 9C (48F) – but the evening will be cloudy.

The best evening for visibility should be Saturday after some rain on Friday and during the day on Saturday.

Weather warnings have been put in place for this weekend as winds reaching speeds of up to 80mph have been forecast, potentially causing significant disruption.

Northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland are likely to be the worst affected areas.

Mr Burgess has also caught the eye of Shropshire Star readers with a close-up shot of a great crested grebe carrying a chick on its back, after the keen photographer spent weeks watching the family of birds.

And with his bird image, Mr Burgess scooped last year's March Star Witness prize of £100.
