Mystery surrounds old Shropshire photograph

Volunteers at a charity shop in Shrewsbury are trying to trace the owner of an old school photograph which arrived in a bag of donations.

The black and white picture, which is captioned Hope School Salop 1940, was found among clothes and books dropped off at Extracare in the Radbrook Green Centre.

Accompanying the picture was a letter and a list of 23 names thought to be those of the children pictured.

Volunteers at the shop are now appealing for help to reunite the photograph with its owner as they believe it could hold sentimental value to them. Nicola Miles, shop manager at Extracare, said she hopes to reunite the owner with the picture in case they were trying to track down old friends and had dropped it off by accident.

She said: "The photo was in a bag of clothing and books handed to one of the volunteers last week. When we went through to sort the items we found it.

"It's a black and white photo of a school class and it says Hope School Salop 1940," she added.

"In with it was a personal letter and a list of 23 names as though they were trying to research whoever was in the photo.

"It might be the case that the owner may have passed away and a relative was trying to find out who was in the picture.

"It might mean something to any one of the people in the picture too."

Anyone who believes they can help reunite the photograph with its owner should call the shop on (01743) 358809.
