Enter the dragons – to celebrate Chinese New Year!
Youngsters learned how to dance with the dragon as a school prepares for the start of the Chinese New Year.
Children at Wrekin View Primary School, in Wellington, learned how to do the famous dragon dance during a day of activities organised by the Telford-based Chinese Arts and Culture Centre.
About 80 nursery and reception-class children took part in the fun, which also saw them donning traditional Chinese dress and learning the art of fan dancing.
Grace Tong, from Chinese Arts and Culture Centre, brought in a miniature version of the dragon which is traditionally used to celebrate the start of the new calendar and a group of youngsters aged three to five learned how to dance underneath it.
Nursery teacher Sue Staveley said the children had enjoyed learning about Chinese culture.
She said: "We have children from a number of different backgrounds. We're quite a multi-cultural school and there are a number of children here who are of Chinese origin.
"It is lovely that they are able to share this special time with us."
Ms Staveley said that the workshop formed part of a series of activities throughout the week as the school prepared to mark the Chinese New Year on Tuesday next week.
